Joint Committee on Climate Change, Sustainability and Resilience
The JCCCSR is a standing committee of the Academic Senate, which is composed of three subcommittees focused on research, teaching, and operations. Each subcommittee is Co-Chaired by a member of the Academic Senate and a representative from campus administrative leadership. Together, these subcommittees advance sustainability, climate, and resilience goals as articulated in Leading the Change, UCSC’s strategic plan.

Sunrise Santa Cruz (formerly the UCSC Climate Coalition) is the UCSC hub of the national Surise movement of millions of young people striving to make climate change an urgent priority across America, to end the corrupting influence of fossil fuel CEOs on our politics and in our universities, and to nurture a new generation of climate leaders working to build a Green New Deal. UCSC Sustainability Office
The UCSC Sustainability Office “facilitates and manages UCSC’s Sustainability & Climate Action Plan and supports the campus to refine, track, and implement goals and benchmarks”; it therefore seeks to connect operations, research, and educational aspects of sustainability so that the campus might be a “living, learning laboratory.” The Sustainability Office offers resources, an events page, and internships for 15-20 students each year; it also funds the annual Carbon Fund competition to support student and staff projects that reduce UCSC’s environmental footprint. (In 2025, the Carbon Fund application deadline is Oct 27).
